The hottest coast of the Pacific Ocean

The Pacific Coast consists of the lowlands departments of Santa Rosa, Escuintla, Retalhuleu and Suchitepèquez. The coast is mostly dedicated to cattle ranching and the growing of sugar cane, cotton and fruits. The climate is hot and humid. Principal tourist attractions are the Pacific beaches and archaeological sites, such as abaj Takalik.

From the mountainous highlands, a 30-minute drive brings visitors to the tropical lowlands of Guatemala`s Pacific Coast, a fertile plain that constitutes the country’s most important agricultural zone, with sugar cane, cotton, coffee, African palm and rubber tree plantations, as well as cattle and shrimp farms. Beaches, mangrove swamps, Olmec and Maya archaeological sites, sea turtles, amusement parks and wildlife sanctuaries are a few of the Pacific Coast`s many tourist attractions.
