Other attractions in Guatemala City include the National Zoo (open 9-5, thues sun ), located just a few blocks from the archaeologyMuseum in Zone 13. The Zoo contains several local animals that visitors are unlikely to see in zoos back home, including jaguars, Kinkajous, Tepescuintles and the endangered horned Guan.
Art lovers might wish to tour the civic center in Zone 4, which boasts murals by some illustrious Guatemala Artists, IncludingCarlos Merida, Roberto Gonzalez Gory, Dogbert Vasquez and Efrain Reclines. A beautiful mosaic mural in front of the social Security institute is considered one of Mirada’s best works. Guatemala’s impressive national theatre, which overlooks the center, hosts plays, concerts and dance performances. Check local listings for theatre events while you’re in town. |
